Description: First dive for mapping excercise as part of the PADI Dive Master course. Got a lot of data to build contour map. Surge started to pick up towards the end of the dive.
I also tried to play around with my weights. I went in with 14lbs (2x4lbs and 2x3lbs on my tank) but was a little light. I borrowed 4lbs from Nick and was sufficiently heavy to decend. I'll probably add another 6lbs to my BCD pockets next time.

I completed the pre-dive briefing and the following was completed by the students:

1) Prep SCUBA equipment
2) Enter water (controlled seated without SCUBA gear)
3) Weighting check in shallow water
4) Don SCUBA unit, adjust straps, practice deflation and both power and oral inflation methods.
5) Face in water breathing from regulator
6) Underwater in shallows:  reg removal, blow bubbles, replace and clear.
7) Underwater in shallows: reg remove and discard behind shoulder, blow bubbles, recover replace/clear and resume breathing    
8) Partial mask flood and clear
9) Alternate Air Source use receiving and donating air (for 30s), first with instructor, then with each other and DMCs
10) Swim into deep water EQUALIZING EARS and mask
11) Ascend slowly using a weighted ascent line

Description: Completed the final Divemaster Skill Development task - breathing from a free flowing regulator, attempted the last Waterskills Exercise - equipment exchange while sharing a single source and completed the Diver Rescue exercise.
  • The skills development was completed successfully, scoring a 93/120 for the 24 skills. A pass mark is 86 with no mark less than 3. Neil assigned this a pass as per his email on 08/21/12.
  • The equipment exchange wasn't as successful, since I couldn't get the single source breathing rhythm correct and in control enough to do the actual exchange. My breathing rate also increases whenever I remove my mask - something I definitely need to work on.
  • The rescue exercise was completed satisfactorily and awarded a pass by Neil as per email on 08/21/12.

Still, took a nice shot of Mailman holding a crab.
